We’re looking for a principal policy advisor to play a leading role in our team, working with communities to improve Southland’s environment.

The role will report directly to the Policy and Planning Manager and provide expert knowledge of both the implementation and application of various legislation.

We are looking for someone who has a tertiary qualification and/or relevant work experience in environmental or resource management.

This position would be suitable for an experienced professional with an in-depth knowledge of Local Government planning processes, as well as an understanding of Central Government initiatives, and relevant stakeholder issues.

We want somebody who is able to analyse, interpret and make the ‘complex’ concise. You will need to be adaptable and pragmatic, with the skills to communicate across a wide range of groups and in a wide range of situations. This includes across Council, with community partners, both locally and further afield. Highly developed project management and report writing skills will be required.
