RMLA News

From your President

Ngā mihi o te tau hou ki a koutou

Best wishes for the new year, which is shaping up to be an exciting one. I hope you are all well-rested, as we will be drawing on your energy and enthusiasm in 2020.

We very much appreciate the efforts of the regional committees who managed to co-ordinate some thoughtful and timely feedback on the Reform Panel’s Issues and Options Paper amongst Christmas festivities and end of year deadlines. This feedback is currently being compiled by our knowledge hub leaders and will be reviewed by the National Committee before submission to the Panel on 3 February 2020. We will post RMLA’s submission on our website once finalised. In the meantime, if you have any further contributions or thoughts, feel free to email them to Karol Helmink karol.helmink@rmla.org.nz or Helen Andrews helen@berrysimons.co.nz directly.

The first National Committee meeting for the new year will be hosted by Bell Gully in Auckland on 28 January. A priority agenda item will be planning our national roadshow opportunities for 2020.  Ideas for roadshows are always gratefully received. We can signal that plans are underway to roll out a follow up to the successful plan writing roadshow organised together with NZPI and the Environment Court last year. This is expected to be a more practical session involving opportunities for practising our drafting skills, so bring your red pens.

Plans are well advanced for our annual conference themed “Rethinking Resources”. This will be held in Rotorua on 17 and 18 September, following the successful two day (Thursday and Friday) format we trialled in Christchurch last year.
