Joanna’s research interests lie in public international law, particularly international environmental law and the law of the sea. Joanna joined the law faculty from Columbia Law School, where she obtained her LLM in international law and taught courses in legal research and writing and appellate advocacy. She has practiced law at the Crown Law Office and at Buddle Findlay.
Joanna is the New Zealand vice-President of the Australia New Zealand Society of International Law, co-editor of the New Zealand Journal of Public and International Law, and a member of the Commission on Environmental Law. She has participated in a variety of international governmental and track two meetings on maritime security and governance of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
