Government consults on extending coastal permits for ports

RMA Reform Minister Chris Bishop and Transport Minister Simeon Brown have announced the Coalition Government’s intention to extend port coastal permits for a further 20 years, providing port operators with certainty to continue their operations.

The extension of ports’ coastal permits is aligned with the National-NZ First coalition agreement commitment to facilitate the development and efficiency of ports and strengthen international supply networks.

The Coalition Government intends that the proposed extension will be included in the second Resource Management Act Amendment Bill to be introduced later this year.

Consultation with key stakeholders and iwi on the proposal will be carried out in the coming months
