The Tāmaki Makaurau branch of yRMLA invites you to their upcoming breakfast session: Introduction to Noise and Vibration.
As one of the many technical disciplines that those working in the resource management profession need to master, Siiri Wilkening and Rose Mayhead will provide valuable insights for those early in their careers to help understand the basics of noise and vibration – from both a Western and te ao Māori perspective.
Siiri is a director at Marshall Day Acoustics. She specialises in the measurement and assessment of environmental noise, computer noise modelling, traffic, industrial and construction noise assessment, management and mitigation. As an experienced acoustic engineer, Siiri will provide us a brief introduction to noise and vibration, and explain her tips and tricks for emerging lawyers and planners when working with experts.
Rose is a fourth year student in Environmental Planning at the University of Waikato. She interned at Marshall Day Acoustics this past summer where she wrote her paper Kōrero o ngā taiao: An exploration of environmental noise. Rose will provide an explanation of her paper that explores environmental noise by contrasting te ao Māori and Western perspectives to consider the differing foundations for noise management in Aotearoa (including the relationship between Mauri (life force) and Hau (vital essence) and the whakapapa (genealogy) of sound show how environmental noise is viewed in te ao Māori).
A light breakfast will be provided. The event is free to attend with sign up below.
