Trustees - Digital Reef Charitable Trust

‍The Digital Reef Charitable Trust is seeking up to 3 new trustees to join its founding board.‍

Digital Reef is a New Zealand not-for-profit established in 2026 to build shared, open spatial-data infrastructure that helps recreation and community-wellbeing organisations participate more effectively in spatial planning and resource management.  As the resource management system is reformed, the values held by these often under-represented groups — public access, outdoor recreation, and place-based wellbeing — need a stronger evidential and participatory footing. The Trust exists to provide that civic infrastructure, grounded in principles of stewardship and shared governance of common resources. Its services will also be available to Councils and other public purpose organisations, and commercial companies, in the same vein.   More detail on the Trust's activities can be found here: https://www.digitalreef.nz/‍ ‍

We are appointing trustees to help guide the Trust through its formative stage: setting strategy, overseeing governance and financial stewardship, and ensuring the organisation delivers public benefit with integrity. We are particularly interested in people with experience in one or more of the following: charitable or not-for-profit governance; resource management, environmental or planning law; financial oversight; spatial data, GIS or digital systems; the outdoor recreation or community-wellbeing sectors; and te ao Māori and Te Tiriti-based practice.

‍This is a voluntary governance role. The board meets at least 4 times a year with meetings held primarily online, so trustees can contribute from anywhere in Aotearoa. We welcome expressions of interest from those new to governance as well as experienced directors and trustees.

‍The Trust's application to become a registered charity is currently being processed by the Charities Services.

Expressions of interest close  25 June 2026.

‍To apply, send a short expression of interest and CV to info@digitalreef.nz or visit https://app.digitalreef.nz/trustee-application  for more information.‍
