Judge Laurie Newhook, a previous recipient of the award, recently shared his reflections with us, encouraging members to consider nominating potential recipients for this special award.

Last year Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia and Kahu Environmental were awarded for a Cultural Impact Assessment recognised for providing a tikanga-grounded framework that elevated the voice of Ngāti Kuia whanau and demonstrated a methodology that was both analytically robust and deeply anchored in place, people and whakapapa. The award acknowledges work that is thoughtful, clear, rigorous, and that genuinely supports good decision‑making within the resource management system, for whenua, wai, and whānau.
