Third Reading of the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill

The Hauraki Gulf Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill has passed its third reading in Parliament.

The Bill will establish High Protection Areas for 800 square kilometres, while limited local ring-net fishing for common species will only be allowed in three per cent of the total protected area. This will be reviewed after three years

The new legislation will come into place before the end of the year.
