What We Do — Supporting Connection & Community

Serve Social: Play. Connect. Repeat.

Event Snapshot
📍 Canterbury-Westland yRMLA Serve Social
📅 Wednesday 27 August 2025, 5:30pm
🎯 Purpose: To bring emerging professionals together for fun, food, and connection.

What Happened
Our mid-year Serve Social event was all about good vibes, shared laughter, and a bit of healthy competition — from ping pong battles to cornhole showdowns. Guests stayed well past the official close to keep the fun (and games) going. It was a fantastic reminder of the strength of our professional community when we step out from behind our desks.

Why It Mattered

  • A member travelled all the way to Christchurch from Ashburton — a clear sign that yRMLA is building something worth turning up for.

  • There was real joy in the room — new connections sparked, old friendships rekindled, and plenty of laughs to go around.

  • Everyone left with stories to share (and medals to show off — even if they were the “cheap and cheerful” kind!).

What It Showed Us

  • That people want to connect — especially when it’s relaxed and inclusive.

  • That activities like these reflect our values: openness, fun, and strengthening our network across the motu.

  • That silly medals really do increase the hype.

Looking Ahead
YRMLA Canterbury are exploring more activity-based social events — where the vibe is casual, the nibbles are flowing, and the connections are real. Watch this space!
